The 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Kievan Rus ( Ukrainian 1020-richchya baptism of Kyiv Rus ), or the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus - nationwide events in Ukraine in July 2008, dedicated to the 1020th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity in Russia under Prince Vladimir Svyatoslavich .

The anniversary was also celebrated on October 23–25, 2008 in Belarus [1] ; the celebrations were led by Patriarch of Moscow Alexy II [2] .

Background

The first official celebration of the “ Baptism of Rus ” took place in 1888 , at the initiative of the Metropolitan of Kiev and Galicia Plato (Gorodetsky) [3] and the Chief Prosecutor of the Holy Synod Pobedonostsev [4] . Kiev became the center of anniversary celebrations celebrated throughout the Russian Empire [5] : on the threshold of the anniversary, Vladimir Cathedral was laid; a monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky was unveiled, solemn services were performed.

The celebration of the 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus was of an intra-church character in the USSR ; The main general church celebrations took place on June 12, 1988, in the Danilov Monastery specially recreated for the anniversary of Moscow . The festivities were attended by the primates of a number of local Orthodox Churches, but was absent, in view of the differences of the protocol order, the Patriarch Dimitry of Constantinople.

Timeline

Church anniversary celebrations within the framework of the Moscow Patriarchate began on the final days of the Russian Orthodox Church Council held in Moscow on June 24 - June 29, 2008 ; the anniversary in documents and official speeches was called the “1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia” [6] [7] .

From July 10 to 19, 2008, celebrations organized by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate (UOC-KP) "on the occasion of the 900th anniversary of St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery and the 1020th anniversary of the baptism of Kievan Rus-Ukraine" were held in Kiev [8] .

National events to celebrate in Ukraine the 1020th anniversary of the baptism of Kievan Rus began July 23, 2008 with a meeting of President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko with members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations [9] . At the invitation of President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko [10] , church and state events were led by Patriarch Bartholomew I [11] [12] of Constantinople , who arrived in Kiev on the morning of July 25 [13] . Activities of the UOC (MP) began on July 25 [14] [15] .

At the meeting, Patriarch Bartholomew I was given the highest state honors: at the Boryspil airport he was greeted by President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk , members of the Ukrainian government, heads of all regional state administrations, and. about. Heads of the Security Service of Ukraine Valentin Nalyvaichenko , Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Raisa Bogatyreva , Primate of the UOC (MP) Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan) , representatives of the Kiev city administration, Ukrainian deputies, representatives of the diplomatic corps of foreign states [13] .

On July 25, President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko attended a prayer service at the Kiev Pechersk Lavra , performed by Patriarch Bartholomew I in the service of Metropolitan Volodymyr; representatives of delegations of foreign churches and members of the government were also present [16] .

On July 25, the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (as part of the Moscow Patriarchate) Metropolitan Hilarion (Corporal) addressed his flock with the message "in connection with the celebration of the memory of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Duke Vladimir and the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia" [17] .

On the evening of July 25, Patriarch Bartholomew celebrated Vespers in St. Sophia Cathedral [18] ; the temple was attended by President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko with his wife, the head of the Organizing Committee for the celebration of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Kievan Rus Leonid Kravchuk , the Primate of the Hellad and Albanian Orthodox Churches, Archbishops Jerome and Anastasius , the head of the UOC (MP) Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan) with a group of hierarchs, representatives of other local Churches, diplomatic corps, Ukrainian politicians.

On July 25, Viktor Yushchenko signed a decree according to which the day of the baptism of Rus will be celebrated annually, on July 28 , on the day of memory of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir [19] .

On July 26, President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko and Patriarch Bartholomew I took part in the opening ceremony of the gallery of portraits of prominent figures of Ukraine and the exhibition of Orthodox paintings. At the exhibition, Viktor Yushchenko and Patriarch Bartholomew I were awarded silver commemorative coins in denominations of 100 hryvnias issued by the National Bank of Ukraine on the occasion of the 1020th anniversary of the baptism of Kievan Rus. The head of the Ukrainian state and Patriarch Bartholomew redeemed envelopes with postage stamps that Ukrposhta issued on the occasion of the 1020th anniversary of the baptism of Kievan Rus. The first canceled envelopes, which depict the monument to St. Vladimir, were also handed over to the President of Ukraine and Patriarch Bartholomew [20] .

After a prayer service in St. Sophia Cathedral , in the square in front of the cathedral, in the presence of Patriarch Bartholomew, heads and representatives of Orthodox churches of other countries, Metropolitan Vladimir (Sabodan) , Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Arseniy Yatsenyuk , Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Raisa Bogatyreva , heads of regional state administrations, representatives of the diplomatic corps of others States, residents of Ukraine, President Yushchenko addressed the meeting, who stated that "we want to have our own state and our own Church." He asked Patriarch Bartholomew to help create a single local Orthodox Church [21] :

I believe that any divisions of Ukrainian believers are short-lived. I believe that as a gift of God, as historical truth and justice in Ukraine, the National Local Church will appear. I believe and ask, Your Holiness, your blessing. For a dream. For the truth. For hope. For our state.

In response to Yushchenko’s words, the Patriarch of Constantinople proclaimed that he did not pretend to expand his powers, he advocated the unity of all Orthodox churches within the framework of church canons and traditions. He noted the existence of the problem of the separation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, but said that the accession of the Ukrainian Church to the Moscow Patriarchate in 1687 was due to historical conditions and allowed the preservation of Orthodoxy in Ukraine [19] . Addressing the Ukrainian people at the celebration on the occasion of the Baptism of Russia on Saturday, Patriarch Bapholome I said [22] :

The continuation of this confusion for ethno-phyletic or political purposes, which does not correspond to the spiritual nature of the Church, would weaken the unifying power of baptism and would further exacerbate the existing alarming division of the church body, a division that destroys not only spiritual unity, but also the civil unity of the Ukrainian people and carries obvious grave consequences for the future of Ukraine.

The Mother Church has not only the right, but also the obligation to support within the framework of the established Orthodox tradition any constructive and promising proposal that would eliminate as soon as possible the dangerous division in the church body, “so that evil does not become greater” for the Holy Church in Ukraine and the Church in general . The various political and church difficulties caused by the confusion are obvious and known from a long historical past, but everyone also knows that caring for the protection and restoration of church unity is our common responsibility, which outweighs any political or church goals in accordance with the instruction of the Divine Founder Churches: “May all be one” ( John 17:21 ).

The address of President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I broadcast live 8 national TV channels of Ukraine. Broadcasting was also carried out to Poland , Turkey , Canada , Greece and other countries [19] .

On the same day, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I headed a memorial service in Kiev for the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 near the memorial sign installed next to St. Michael's Cathedral. Together with Patriarch Bartholomew, they attended a memorial service for those who died of starvation in Ukraine and representatives of other Orthodox Churches in the world. President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko, his wife Kateryna , Patriarch Bartholomew I and the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk put on the memorial sign “Candles of Remembrance”. In memory of the victims of the great Holodomor in Ukraine, a minute of silence was declared [23] In the evening, in the St. Sophia Cathedral, Patriarch Bartholomew made a solemn Vespers [18] .

Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II arrived in Kiev on July 26 at 17:30 local time [24] . He was met by the Primate of the UOC (MP) Metropolitan Vladimir, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Viktor Chernomyrdin [25] . Unlike the visit of Patriarch Bartholomew I, the arrival of Patriarch Alexy II was not accompanied by state visit ceremonies [26] . The arrival of the Primate of the Russian Church remained in the shadow of state celebrations - to the extent that two parallel celebration programs were drawn up. On the morning of July 27 , along with Patriarch Bartholomew, he performed the liturgy on Vladimir Hill [27] [28] .

During the liturgy, the pilgrims of the UOC (MP) were driven back from the Vladimir Hill under the pretext of security measures [29] . Law enforcement officials explained their actions with security concerns, in particular, the threat of a crush near the monument [30] . In a word at the end of the liturgy on July 27, Patriarch Alexy II, in particular, said [31] :

The Mother See of Kiev, the mother of Russian cities, not only did not lose its significance, but moreover, it was replenished and is now one of the most important centers, the southern capital of Russian Orthodoxy. We well know and remember that at the source of Orthodoxy in Russia was the Holy Church of Constantinople, whose pastors baptized Kiev in the Dnieper font. Remembering this great event firmly and forever connects us with the Mother Church, as well as the whole subsequent history, filled with many and glorious deeds. We gratefully recall the Patriarch of Constantinople Dionysius , who blessed the reunification of the once unified, but then, by coincidence of historical circumstances, divided Russian Church, far from us in the 17th century.

 
Rock concert on Khreshchatyk

On July 26, a rock concert was held on the occasion of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia. Initially, they wanted to spend it on Maidan , but later they moved it to 500 m to the Kiev city administration. The stage was opened across Khreshchatyk , so that the very back rows of spectators were on the Maidan itself. The concert began with a video message from Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II and Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine Vladimir. His Holiness Patriarch Alexy urged everyone to be worthy of the sacred Dnieper font, to preserve the precious treasure of the holy Orthodox faith for posterity and to be always together. Then began the performance of rock groups: DDT, The Brothers Karamazov , Masterclass , S.K.A. ", Actor and showman George Deliev . Yuri Shevchuk told the audience [32] :

Those politicians who are trying to embroil us in 30 years will be gone. And we will stay. And we will live together. Russian-Ukrainian friendship forever!

In between DDT songs, Metropolitan Kirill (Gundyaev) and Metropolitan of Dnipropetrovsk Irenaeus (Middle) took to the stage. Metropolitan Cyril, speaking to those gathered on Khreshchatyk, said:

Hello Kiev!

Even Lavrenty Chernigovsky said that Russia, Ukraine and Belarus-this is Holy Russia ! And Holy Russia is not an empire! Holy Russia is not some kind of union, past or future. Holy Russia is the ideal of beauty, goodness and truth!

On the evening of July 27, a meeting between the Patriarchs Bartholomew I and Alexy II took place in the building of the Kiev Metropolis, after which both princes answered questions from journalists in the Synod Hall of the Kiev Metropolis [33] . Earlier, Metropolitan Vladimir presented Patriarch Bartholomew and all members of the delegation of Constantinople with commemorative awards - the jubilee orders “1020th Anniversary of the Baptism of Russia” and letters from the Holy Synod [33] . Negotiations between the two patriarchs, according to the DECR chairman Metropolitan Kirill (Gundyaev), "testify to the complete unity of the two Churches, two Patriarchs and the preservation of full canonical unity in universal Orthodoxy" [34] .

July 28, on the day of memory of St. Prince Vladimir, Patriarch Alexy II led the liturgy on the Cathedral Square of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra; at the end of the Liturgy, Metropolitan Vladimir (Sabodan) addressed all those present with a word of congratulation; “Then His Holiness Patriarch Alexy addressed the believers with a message of greetings and congratulated everyone on the occasion of the memory of Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Duke Vladimir and the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia. According to His Holiness, Holy Prince Vladimir stood at the cradle of our Local Church ” [35] . Thousands of believers after the Divine Liturgy chanted: “Alexy is our Patriarch” [36] .

The previously planned trip of Patriarch Alexy II to Donetsk on the recommendation of doctors was canceled [37] . Press Secretary of the Metropolitan of Donetsk and Mariupol Hilarion (UOC (MP)) Archpriest George Gulyaev : “The Patriarch is very upset. He planned and was serious about arriving in the Donetsk region, however, his age and worries about certain moments that were in Kiev prevented his visit ” [38] . According to information received in the secretariat of the President of Ukraine [39] , the cancellation of the visit was a sign of protest against the “cool reception” of the Patriarch by the Ukrainian authorities. On July 30, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry rejected as groundless accusations of the Russian side [40] that the celebrations were held with disrespect for the leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church [41] .

In a speech on July 28 at a gala concert in honor of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia in the Kiev Ukraine Palace, Patriarch Alexy, in particular, said [42] [43] :

Motivated by motherly love, our Church ardently wishes that those of her children who foolishly left for the country far away ( Luke 15:13 ) should return to their father’s house. But this must happen in accordance with the unshakable canons of the Church. Only on this solid foundation can a genuine unity be restored without the danger of further divisions.

On the eve of the departure of Patriarch Bartholomew I from Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko once again expressed confidence that the desire for a unified local national church will inevitably be realized and this will happen in the foreseeable future. For his part, Bartholomew I assured that the Patriarchate of Constantinople welcomes the unifying tendencies in Ukrainian Orthodoxy: “It is precisely because we are representatives of the Mother Church that we are worried about your prospects and your future. We are interested in a single Ukrainian church, since this is the interest of Orthodoxy and the Ukrainian people are interested in this ” [44] [45] .

The protocol side of the organization of the celebrations by the Ukrainian authorities provoked protests from the official representatives of the Moscow Patriarchate : on May 21, 2008, the Department for External Church Relations of the MP declared that “the invitation of the Ecumenical Patriarch to the celebration of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia, according to church rules, should come from the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus ”, since Ukraine is its canonical territory [47] [48] . Patriarch of Moscow Alexy II was also invited by the President of Ukraine [49] .

On July 14, 2008, on the official website of the UOC, a commentary was published by the chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC, Archimandrite Kirill (Govorun) , which stated: “Representatives of the Church of Constantinople emphasized that Patriarch Bartholomew is visiting the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and recognizes as the local primate Orthodox Church exclusively blessed Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine Vladimir . Therefore, in all the events provided for by the celebration program, including state ones, the Patriarch of Bartholomew of Constantinople will take part together with His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir. ” [50]

July 16, 2008 it became known that "the Patriarch of Constantinople agreed to participate in protocol events and, moreover, to contacts with representatives of various religious associations of Ukraine" [51] [52] [53] . The Ukrainian press on the eve of the arrival of Patriarch Bartholomew wrote that the Patriarch of Moscow Alexy II allegedly called on the Primate of other local Churches invited to the celebrations to ignore the events in Kiev [54] [55] .

On July 23, the Holy Synod of the UOC (MP) sent Patriarch Bartholomew an Appeal [56] , in which it said, in particular: “ We are confident that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is able to independently solve its internal problems. The help of other Local Churches should not become an interference in the internal affairs of our Church . ”

Kommersant newspaper [57] and some other sources [58] [59] disseminated information that on the eve of the festivities, the Moscow Patriarchate, as well as the Russian leadership made efforts to “disrupt the holiday”; According to the publication, "it is obvious that the actual breakdown of the celebrations can only push the Ukrainian side to even more active actions" [57] . The information of the Russian newspaper is indirectly confirmed by the publication in the Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet , an article by a political observer who claimed that “interference in the internal affairs of other countries” by Patriarch Bartholomew “from Cyprus to Estonia, from Jerusalem to Ukraine” creates foreign policy problems for the Turkish state [60]

The events of July 28 in the Lavra, led by Patriarch Alexy II, were presented by the Russian media as “the main celebrations in honor of the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Russia”, calling the Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople “Istanbul Patriarch” [61] .

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine criticized the actions of the Russian Federation. According to the appeal, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry “took with concern the message published by the Russian side”, which contains assessments that “do not correspond to reality, are too politicized and far from objective”. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is particularly perplexed by “the groundless accusation on the Russian side of a seemingly“ disrespectful attitude ”to the ROC hierarchs during their participation in the celebration of the 1020th anniversary of the baptism of Kievan Rus” [62] .

According to Viktor Konstantinov , senior researcher at the Ukrainian Institute for the Study of Russia, attempts by the Ukrainian authorities to “create a single local Orthodox church in Ukraine, subordinate not to the Russian Orthodox Church, but to the Patriarchate of Constantinople, will have large-scale foreign policy consequences. Moscow’s reaction to the actions of official Kiev can be unprecedentedly harsh ” [63] .

Reaction from the non-canonical Kiev Patriarchate

Bishop Vasilkovsky Eustratius (Zorya) , head of the Information and Publishing Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate on July 25, 2008 said: “ Moscow Patriarch, the Church of Russia is losing its monopoly on Ukraine. До сегодняшнего времени московской церковной дипломатии удавалось довольно эффективно изображать проблемы Православной церкви на Украине внутренней проблемой Русской церкви. Заявления, которые сделал Вселенский Патриарх, сам факт его визита, несмотря на сопротивление и не желание Москвы, чтобы этот визит состоялся, свидетельствуют о том, что эта матрица сломана, что Украина уже не рассматривается Вселенским православием как исключительно московская внутренняя территория. И, соответственно, проблемы в Украинской церкви уже не рассматриваются как внутренние проблемы Московского патриархата » [64] .

4 августа было опубликовано его же интервью, в котором говорилось, в частности: « Знаете, поведение патриарха Алексия мне напомнило поведение капризного гостя, который хочет, чтобы хозяева исполняли все его прихоти. Значение праздника

Президент Украины Виктор Ющенко накануне прибытия Патриарха Варфоломея высказал своё мнение, что «визит на Украину Его Всесвятейшества Вселенского Патриарха Варфоломея І по случаю празднования 1020-летия крещения Киевской Руси начинает те фундаментальные процессы консолидации украинского православия, которые должны нас привести к единой поместной церкви» [68] . Он отметил: «Это колоссальная честь для нашей земли, для нашего народа встречать Вселенского Патриарха. <…> В последний раз Вселенский Патриарх был на Украине, встречая войско гетмана Зиновия Хмельницкого в 1648 году» [68] [69] Наблюдатели отметили, что последняя часть фразы не вполне точна, так как Константинопольские патриархи неоднократно посещали Украину и раньше [70] , а Варфоломей 24 сентября 1997 года был в Одессе, где имел неофициальную встречу с Патриархом Московским Алексием II [71] [72] .

Патриарх Варфоломей І подтвердил точку зрения Вселенского Престола о том, что Украинская православная церковь ( Киевская митрополия ) семь столетий входила в каноническую юрисдикцию Церкви-Матери — Вселенского патриархата, то есть начиная со времени принятия крещения князем Владимиром и до переподчинения её Московскому Патриархату вследствие аннексии её Российским государством [73] [74] .

На пресс-конференции 28 июля представитель УПЦ (МП) архимандрит Кирилл (Говорун) отметил, что церковный раскол на Украине будет преодолен, но вопрос об автокефальном статусе Церкви должен обсуждаться только после объединения украинского Православия, каковой подход, по его мнению, разделяет и Патриарх Варфоломей [75] .

«День крещения Киевской Руси — Украины» ( 28 июля каждого года) был официально объявлен государственным праздником Украины. Инициаторами выступили Национальный совет по вопросам культуры и духовности, Украинская православная церковь Московского патриархата , Украинская православная церковь Киевского патриархата , Украинская автокефальная православная церковь и др. [76] На состоявшемся 5 августа 2008 года заседании Священного Синода УПЦ (МП) был утверждён текст обращения к Президенту Украины Виктору Ющенко, в котором от лица духовенства и мирян была выражена благодарность за установление государственного праздника «День Крещения Киевской Руси» [77] .

По мнению Алексея Малютина, официальный комментарий главы Отдела внешних церковных связей УПЦ (МП) архимандрита Кирилла (Говоруна) после встречи за закрытыми дверями Патриархов Варфоломея I и Алексия II означает, что «Московская патриархия, которая раньше считала Украину своей эксклюзивной „канонической территорией“, теперь допускает туда в качестве активного действующего лица и Константинополь. А значит, постепенно уступает Украину в обмен на сохранение собственного лица и „единства мирового православия“» [78] .

Во время разговора Президента Украины Ющенко и Патриарха Варфоломея в Стамбуле 28 октября 2008 года, Виктор Ющенко выразил признательность Патриарху за участие в торжественном праздновании 1020-летия Крещения Киевской Руси; по словам президента, молитвы и речи Патриарха произвели сильное впечатление на верующий украинский народ и дали уверенность в действенной помощи в создании Украинской поместной православной церкви [79] [80] .

Митрополит Смоленский и Калининградский Кирилл, участвовавший в праздновании подчеркнул [81] :

Не произошло разделение в мировом православии, не произошло разделения в украинском православии. Мы вышли из этого празднования сильнее, чем были до него.

Тема создания единой Украинской православной церкви

28 июля 2008 года руководитель отдела внешних церковных связей Украинской православной церкви Московского патриархата архимандрит Кирилл (Говорун) заявил, что, по результатам переговоров, Патриарх московский Алексий II и предстоятель Константинопольской православной церкви Вселенский патриарх Варфоломей I договорились сотрудничать в вопросе создания единой Украинской православной церкви, совместно со всеми украинскими православными церквями и другими церквями мира [82] .

Газета Коммерсантъ от 28 июля 2008 года опубликовала данное ей 26 июля Леонидом Кравчуком неофициальное интервью, в котором он изложил имевшийся план преодоления юрисдикционно-канонического кризиса: « Насколько я знаю, Филарет [глава Украинской православной церкви Киевского Патриархата] и Мефодий [глава Украинской автокефальной православной церкви] должны написать обращения к Варфоломею с просьбой принять их под свою юрисдикцию. В качестве митрополии. И будет две Церкви — одна под Москвой, другая под Константинополем. А потом Константинопольский Патриарх сделает Киевскую митрополию автокефальной Церковью. Ну, это, по крайней мере, один из сценариев » [83] [84] .

В пресс-релизе УПЦ КП по случаю празднования 1020-летия Крещения Киевской Руси о визите Вселенского Патриарха говорилось: «В Киевском патриархате полагают, что визит предстоятеля матери-Церкви, его личное знакомство с Украиной, будут способствовать оживлению объединительных процессов в украинском православии. Целью этих процессов является объединение Украинской Церкви и признание её поместной и автокефальной» [85] [86] .

В ходе опроса граждан Украины, проведённого Киевским международным институтом социологии в преддверии 1020-летия Крещения Руси, было предложено ответить на вопрос: «Какая православная церковь более всех имеет право считаться исторической правопреемницей Православной церкви, основанной в Киевской Руси 1020 лет тому назад?» 32,6 % опрошенных ответили, что правопреемницей церкви времен Киевской Руси является УПЦ Киевского Патриархата ; 15,6 % считают такой УПЦ Московского патриархата ; 1,9 % — Украинскую автокефальную православную церковь; 10,1 % — Русскую православную церковь; 37,5 % затруднились ответить на вопрос. [87]

Монета, посвящённая 1020-летию крещения Киевской Руси

17 июля 2008 года была выпущена в обращение серебряная монета номиналом 100 гривен, посвящённая 1020 — летию крещения Киевской Руси. На аверсе монеты вверху размещен малый Государственный Герб Украины, по кругу на фоне стилизованного орнамента — надписи: Вверху — Национальный банк Украины , внизу — «Сто гривен», между ними — год чеканки монеты 2008 (справа), обозначение металла и его пробы — Ag 999, масса в чистоте — 1000, логотип Монетного двора Национального банка Украины (налево). В центре монеты в кругу, образованном из стилизованных лучей, размещен крест и надписи полукругом: «Православ'я» (вверху) «Из Киева по всей Руси» [88] .

На реверсе монеты изображена многофигурная композиция крещения, под которой размещена надпись — «988 год», вверху полукругом надпись — «Крещение Киевской Руси». Масса монеты 1000,0 грамм, диаметр 100,0 мм. Тираж — 800 штук [88] .

Награждение государственными наградами

По случаю 1020-летия Крещения Руси иерархи православных церквей были награждены высшими наградами Украины. Так, Вселенский Патриарх Варфоломей І был награждён высшей наградой Украины — орденом князя Ярослава Мудрого [89] І степени [90] . Предстоятели православных церквей других государств были также награждены орденами князя Ярослава Мудрого ІІІ — V степеней и орденами «За заслуги» .

Накануне празднования Крещения Руси орденами князя Ярослава Мудрого І степени были награждены Патриарх Киевский и всей Руси — Украины Филарет ( УПЦ КП ) [91] , митрополит Киевский и всей Украины Владимир ( УПЦ (МП) ) и глава Украинской грекокатолической церкви кардинал Любомир Гузар [92] .
