Biography
In 1915 he was drafted into the army. On the fronts of World War I was seriously wounded (lost his right leg), was captured in Austria-Hungary .
From captivity sent to Russia in July 1916 as a war invalid. By disability (deprivation of the right leg) could not be in the Red Army and participate in the civil war .

In the same year, he took the pseudonym Elger (Elgerin), which later became his official surname.
Passed teacher training courses in Kazan. He worked in an elementary school of his native village.
In 1922-1935 was an employee of the publications " Kanash ", "Kolkhoznik Yalavk" (Banner of the collective farmer) (then - "Pirun Yal" / "Our Village") [2] , " Suntal ".
He was the chief editor of the editorial staff of fiction literature of the Chuvash book publishing house.
He was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR.

The works “Shurămpuç kilsen” (“At Dawn”, novel , 1958), “Ulăcem” (“Giants”, fairy tale , 1959), “Hĕn-hur aiĕnche” (“Under the burden”, poem , 1960) were also translated and published in Russian.
Memory
- One of the annual awards of the Union of Journalists of Chuvashia, established in 1974, is named after Elger [1] .
- The streets in the Moskovsky district of Cheboksary and in the village of Ibresi are named after Elger [3] .
- In the building of the Bolsheabakasinsk school a literary museum named after S. Elger was created.
