History

 
Regimental BMD-4M .

The regiment was formed on September 24, 1948 on the basis of the personnel of the 3rd parachute airborne battalion of the 346th guards airborne landing regiment of the 104th guards airborne order of Kutuzov’s division of the 38th guards airborne forces , sergeants of the 104th and 76th guards airborne divisions and recruits called up in 1948. The formation of the unit continued until January 1, 1949 . According to the formation, it received the name 104 Guards Airborne Landing Regiment.

In the period from 1979 to 1989 , many soldiers of the regiment, seconded to other units, performed an international duty in Afghanistan .

From 1994 to 1995, the regiment as part of the 76th guards airborne assault Chernihiv Red Banner Division took part in the First Chechen War . In 1999 and 2004, the regiment participated in the counter-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus .

Based on the results of combat training in 2005 and 2006, the unit was recognized as the best in the Airborne Forces. During the reform of the Airborne Forces from December 1, 2006, the full name of the regiment: 104th Guards Airborne Assault Red Banner Regiment.

In 2002-2003, an experiment was successfully conducted in the regiment to create the first military unit on a contract basis: [1]

  • August 25, 2002 - the 104th paratrooper regiment receives the first volunteers, they live in soldier’s dormitories along with conscript military personnel, they also carry out combat training according to one program, some of the personnel are accommodated in tents, while old ones are being reconstructed and new residential buildings are being built premises, the training base is being improved;
  • September 15, 2002 - the first 104th airborne paratrooper battalion, staffed by contract soldiers, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Andrei Velichenko, goes on a combat drill, he will soon have a β€œbusiness trip” to the North Caucasus;
  • December 1, 2002 - the first parachute assault regiment in the Armed Forces (104th), formed on a contract basis, begins combat training, at the same time, volunteers are completing other parts of the division, tactical battalion groups are being formed to be sent to Chechnya;
  • December 23, 2003 - Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov, who arrived in the 76th division, announces that the experiment on creating the first compound on a contract basis has been successfully completed.

Insignia

In 1976, the regiment was awarded the challenge Red Banner of the Pskov Regional Committee of the CPSU and the Regional Executive Committee, "for excellent successes in military and political training, military discipline . "
