Miron from Elevfer

Miron ( Greek Μύρων ) - an ancient Greek sculptor of the middle of the 5th century BC e. from Eleufer , on the border of Attica and Boeotia . The sculptor of the era that preceded directly the highest flowering of Greek art (late VI - early V century).

The ancients characterize him as the greatest realist and expert on anatomy, who did not know how, however, to give people life and expression. He portrayed gods, heroes and animals, and with special love he reproduced difficult, fleeting poses. Of the images of animals performed by Miron, “Chick” was most famous for others, in the praise of which dozens of epigrams were written. With the most minor exceptions, the works of Miron were bronze.

In one of the oxirinh papyruses it is reported that Miron created the statues of the athlete Timant, the winner of the Olympics in 456 BC. e., and Licinius, the winner in 448 and 444 years. BC e. This helped establish the sculptor's lifetime. Miron was a contemporary of Phidias and Polycletes , Agelad is considered his teacher.

In honor of Miron, a crater on Mercury is named.
