Early years

De Jong was born in the south-west of Switzerland, in a hospital in the small town of Aigle , however, he spent the first years of his life in Leysane , where his parents lived at that time [3] . George de Jong and Luke Raterink , former players of the Netherlands national volleyball team, moved from the Netherlands to Switzerland in 1982 [3] . His mother spent 90 matches for the national team, while his father played 35 games [3] [4] .

But unlike his parents, Sim did not become a volleyball player, but chose another sport - football. In 1995, the whole family, including his younger brother Luke , returned to the Netherlands and settled in the city of Dutinham . It was here that Sim’s football career began, in the local team ДЗК'68 [3] . At the age of 12, he was spotted by the scouts of De Grafshap , and since 2001 began to play for the youth team of this club.

In Dutingham, de Jong entered the Rietveld Likem school, where Guus Hiddink , Paul Bosvelt and Klass-Jan Hüntelar studied at one time. He received a vwo diploma there and decided to further study economics at the University of Amsterdam , but after Sim moved to the Ajax Amsterdam, he decided to quit his studies and concentrate completely on football. After only a year of playing for the youth squad, de Jong became a player in the main squad of Ajax.

In August 2018, he transferred on loan to the Australian club Sydney [5] .

Club career

De Jong's debut in the main team of Ajax took place on September 26, 2007 in a match against the Kozakzen Boys club, which ended in a 2-1 win for Ajax. Sim scored his first goal for Ajax against Sparta Rotterdam on October 7, 2007, the match ended in a draw 2: 2.

In the summer of 2012 he became the captain of the club.

In total for Ajax, the football player spent 244 matches, scoring 78 goals.

July 1, 2014 joined the English club Newcastle United . The contract was signed for 6 years, the transfer amount was not disclosed [6] . De Jong did not have a career at Newcastle; in three years he played only 26 matches, in which he scored two goals. One of the reasons for the Dutchman’s unsuccessful game was his frequent injuries - collapse of the lung, rupture of the thigh muscle and an eye problem, due to which he missed many matches [7] . In August 2016, de Jonga leased the Dutch PSV for a period of one season [8] . In the 2016/2017 season, he played 19 matches and scored six goals in the Netherlands Championship [9] .

On August 28, 2017, de Jong left Newcastle and returned to Ajax, with whom he signed a contract for three years [7] [9] .

Personal life

The younger brother of Sima Luke is also a football player, he stands for the Spanish “ Seville ”.
