Kursky, Dmitry Ivanovich

He was born on October 10 ( 22 ), 1874 in Kiev, in the family of a railway engineer-technologist ^[1] .

He graduated with a gold medal from the College of Pavel Galagan in Kiev, and instead of the medal he took the money that he sent home to his family. In 1900 he graduated from the Law Faculty of Moscow University .

In 1904 he joined the RSDLP . He was an active participant in the December armed uprising in Moscow ; member of the Butyrsky district committee of the RSDLP (b) . Since 1906 - member of the Moscow Regional Bureau of the RSDLP (b). He participated in the publication of a number of Bolshevik newspapers in the pre-October period. Since 1907, a member of the Moscow Regional Bureau of the Central Committee of the RSDLP.

In 1909 he was arrested, but soon released.

In 1914 he was mobilized in the army; participated in the battles of the First World War as an ensign , continuing revolutionary activity. From May to August 1917 - Chairman of the Council of Soldiers' Deputies of the 4th Army on the Romanian Front, delegate to the 1st All-Russian Congress of Soviets (June 1917). In October 1917, he was a member of the Military Revolutionary Committee in Odessa.

In 1918, he joined Dzerzhinsky and Stalin in the commission on the organization of intelligence agencies in Soviet Russia ^[2] . From March 1918 - a member of the board, from August 1918 to January 1928, the People's Commissar of Justice of the RSFSR and at the same time the first Soviet prosecutor . In 1919 - 1920 he was the commissar of the General Headquarters and the Field Headquarters of the Red Army and a member of the Revolutionary Military Council of the RSFSR.

Since 1921 he was a member of the Presidium of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee . Since 1923 - Member of the Presidium of the CEC of the USSR . The delegate of the VIII, IX, X-XVIth congresses of the party. Since 1923 - a member, and in 1924-1927 - Chairman of the Central Auditing Commission (CRC) of the CPSU (b) .

At the XVth Congress ( 1927 ) he was elected a member of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks ; in 1927-1930 a member of the Central Control Commission of the CPSU (b).

In 1928 - 1932, the USSR ambassador to Italy .

He died on December 20, 1932 in Moscow .

Until 1994, he was named after the Saratov Law Institute . Now his name is a street in the city of Vichuga .

He headed the Institute of Soviet Law in the late 1920s. He participated in the creation of the first Soviet laws and codified acts (“On the Family, Marriage, and Guardianship,” etc.) and under his leadership, the Criminal and Civil Codes were created.

“Comrade Kursky, the People’s Commissar of Justice in 1918-1928, on December 5, 1932, pricked the nail phalanx of the second finger of his right hand. First appeared to the doctor on December 12th. December 13 entered the surgical department of the Kremlin hospital. On the same day he underwent surgery - multiple incisions on the finger and hand. On December 15, secondary incisions were made ... the patient died of general blood poisoning on December 20. "
