Biography

A.N. Lazarev was born on July 5, 1945 in Moscow. He studied at the October Revolution Music and Pedagogical School in the class of button accordion, LHC named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov in the class of button accordion, then he graduated from Moscow State Theater named after P.I. Tchaikovsky with L. M. Ginzburg . In 1971, the orchestra under his management received the first prize of the All-Union Competition of Conductors . In 1972, he won first prize and a gold medal at the student orchestra competition in Berlin .

On April 7, 1974, under the direction of A. N. Lazarev, staged by B. A. Pokrovsky at the Bolshoi Theater , the first production of the opera “ The Player ” by S. S. Prokofiev was presented in Russian (2nd edition) [1] . In 1987 - 1995, Alexander Lazarev was the chief conductor and artistic director of the Bolshoi Theater. He directed many opera productions of those years. In the videos, for example, his versions of Mlad by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Life for the Tsar by Glinka, Boris Godunov by Mussorgsky were preserved.

Simultaneously with his work at the Bolshoi Theater in 1992 - 1995, he served as a guest conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra . In 1994, he became a guest conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra , and in 1997-2005 he led it. In 2008 - 2011 - the head of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra .

In 2015, Lazarev, after a long break, again performed an opera production in Russia - “Khovanshchina” by Modest Mussorgsky at the Stanislavsky Musical Theater in Moscow. It was followed in 2016 by the operas of Sergei Prokofiev “ Love for Three Oranges ” and Pyotr Tchaikovsky's “ Queen of Spades ”.
