Castle history
The castle was built by William Fitz-Ozburn in 1067-1071, and in 1200, Count Pembroke added two towers to the castle, his sons the gatehouse and barbiken (a building defending a drawbridge). Chepstow Castle is the first UK castle built entirely of stone.
The castle was opened in 1953 for visitors.
