Location
The city is located 52 km south-east of the administrative center of the region of the city of Temuco .
The municipality borders:
- in the north - with Vilkun commune
- in the northeast - with the commune of Melipuko
- in the east - with the commune of Kurareue
- in the south - with the communes of Villarrica , Pucon
- in the west - with the municipality of Freire

According to information collected during the census by the National Institute of Statistics, the population of the commune is 19063 people, of which 9234 are men and 9829 are women.
