Title

The name of the city comes from the hydronym Yuryuzan, which in turn translates as “big river” [2] (valley) - from the Bashkir jur (yur) “big” and үҙән (uzyan) “river, valley” [3] [4] [ 5] .

Geography

The city is located on the Yuryuzani river ( Kama basin), 254 km west of Chelyabinsk in the mining zone.

The climate is sharply continental. The average annual rainfall is 530 mm. The least precipitation falls in February, an average of about 22 mm, and the least in July, an average of 87 mm. The warmest month is July, the average temperature is 16 ° C, and the coldest month is January, the average temperature is -15 ° C.

History

It was founded in 1758 as a village in connection with the construction of the Siberian industrialists I. Tverdyshev and I. Myasnikov ironworks (operated until 1908) and was named Yuryuzan-Ivanovsky Plant [6] . From the end of the XIX century - Yuryuzansky Plant . In 1829, one of the serfs' largest protests in the 1st half of the 19th century took place here - an uprising led by a factory employee I. I. Tarakanov. Since 1928, it is the working village of Yuryuzan (named after the river), from June 18, 1943 - the city of Yuryuzan of regional subordination.

In Soviet times, a mechanical plant was operating in the city, producing Yuryuzan household refrigerators, as well as ammunition for small arms, including unique underwater pistols, various types of chains for agriculture and the food industry, tractor pumps.
