Ram Baran Yadav (born February 4, 1948 [1] , Dhanusa , Nepal ) is the party’s general secretary, Nepal ’s first president , elected by the Constituent Assembly on July 21, 2008 . The election of the president became possible after the republic was proclaimed in Nepal on May 28, 2008 .

On July 19, Yadav was not enough to elect four votes. Two days later, 308 out of 590 participants in the meeting voted in his favor. By the number of votes cast for him, Yadav surpassed the republican candidate - supported by the Maoists Ramraj Prasad Singh.
Yadav graduated from the College of Medicine in Calcutta ( India ), twice ( 1991 and 1999 ) he served as Minister of Health of Nepal.
In 1999, he was elected to the House of Representatives from the Nepali Congress Party. Prior to being elected President of Nepal, he was Secretary General of the Nepali Congress Party.
Has two sons and a daughter. The wife died in 1983 .
