Biography
He studied law in Vienna and Budapest, but in 1881 he entered the Academy of Music , where he studied under Erkel and Robert Volkman . Twice won the Liszt scholarship and since 1883 studied in his class. Accompanied F. Liszt in Weimar , Rome and Bayreuth .
Since 1888 - professor at the Liszt Academy of Music . Having retired in 1907, he taught at a private music school; gave master classes. His students were, in particular, Bela Bartok , Ernst von Donagni , Zoltan Koday , Fritz Rainer , Leo Weiner [2] , György Tsifra [3] , Arnold Sekei , Ethelka Freund and others. Bartok paid tribute to Toman by publishing a congratulatory article on the 40th anniversary of his artistic career [4] .
Concerted in Hungary and abroad.
The author of songs, rhapsodies, impromptu. Compiled a collection of exercises "Piano technique" ( Hungarian. A zongorazas technikaja ).
He was buried in Budapest at the Kerepeshi cemetery [5] .
