Biography
Ernst Friedrich Eduard Richter studied law first, and then music in Zittau and Leipzig. In 1843 , along with Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann , he became one of the first six professors of the newly created Leipzig Conservatory (he taught harmony and counterpoint ). Among Richter's students, in particular, Eugene Albrecht , Fedor Begrov , Ivan Knorr , Hugo Riemann , Mikhail Santis , Salomon Yadasson , James Kvast , Ukrainian composer Nikolai Lysenko . He is the author of textbooks on harmony ( 1853 ), fugue ( 1859 ) and counterpoint ( 1872 ), which were popular in the 19th century but criticized by Arnold Schoenberg ( 1911 ).
From 1851 , he was an organist in various Leipzig churches, until in 1868 , after the death of Moritz Hauptmann , he became cantor in the famous Boys Choir at the St. Thomas School of Leipzig , consecrated by Johann Sebastian Bach staying on it in the first half of the 18th century. Author of motets, masses, songs.
