Biography
The first lessons in music were taught to her by her father, pianist Claude Montagnon. At the age of six, she began to practice guitar, and her father again turned out to be a father who was not a guitarist, but possessed the basic techniques of playing the instrument, and remained the only teacher in her life. She began performing in public at the age of eight, two years later she first played a concert in Paris (already under the name of Ida Presti), recorded with fourteen, and soon declared herself as an outstanding talent. At festivals dedicated to Hector Berlioz and Niccolo Paganini, she was allowed to play the guitars owned by these composers. After World War II, she resumed her career, giving, in particular, the French premiere of “ Aranjuez Concert ” by Joaquin Rodrigo in 1948 . In 1952, Presti married the guitarist Alexander Lagoyu and later performed only in a duet with him. Presti and Lagoya toured all over the world and enjoyed great popularity, in the mid-1960s they visited with concerts of the USSR.
Presti's life ended in 1967 : during one of the concert tours in the USA, she was hospitalized in a hospital, where she died from a rupture of aneurysm and internal hemorrhage.
Creativity
Presti is called one of the best guitarists of the 20th century. Her game was distinguished by instinctive musicality, unsurpassed beauty of sound, original and non-standard technique. Duet Presti - Lagoya is devoted to a number of works by contemporary composers, including a unique cycle of 24 preludes and fugues “Well-Tempered Guitars” by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco . Prest's repertoire also included classical and romantic works, as well as transcriptions of lute works of the Baroque era . A large number of Presti recordings are available on CD.
