Biography

Georg was born into an ordinary working-class family in Hera . At 10, he had already started playing for the SV-Gera youth team. In 1944 he joined the National Socialist German Labor Party . After World War II, until 1947, he worked as a builder at a construction site.

Since 1947 he moved to Jena , where he studies at Jena University and plays for the university football team. There, he was noticed by the scouts of the Motor (Jena) . From 1952-1958 he went to the field 61 times for Motor.

In 1954 he was attracted to the GDR national team as a defender.

The career of footballer George Bushner ended in 1958. And an even more intense coach career began.

From 1958-1970 he worked as a head coach in his native Motor (Jena) .

In 1970 - became the head coach of the GDR National Team . The biggest success in George's work is considered to be a victory over the German national football team with a score of 1: 0 at the World Cup in 1974 . After not getting to the 1982 World Cup, Georg is fired from his post as head coach.

For their services, George Bushner was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland .

In retirement, he traveled a lot around the world with his wife. On February 12, 2007, he died of prostate cancer .
