Bellinzona is located in the Italian-speaking region, so the clubs of the Italian Serie A are leased to a team of young players to gain gaming experience.
Bellinzona won the right to play in the Swiss Super League after defeating St. Gallen with a score of 5-2 on the sum of two matches in the playoffs for a ticket to the Super League in the 2007/08 season. Bellinzona played in the big leagues in the 2008/09 season for the first time since the 1989/90 season.
