Pasko Rekish , also, in the Croatian manner, Rakic ( born Pasko Rakic , Croat Paško Rakić , born May 15, 1933 [1] , Serbia) is an American neurophysiologist and neuroanatomist of Yugoslav origin, a researcher of developmental processes central nervous system. Professor of Yale University and director of its Institute of Neuroscience, member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Medical Academy of the United States, foreign member of the Royal Society of London (2016) Together with Thomas Jessel and became the winner of the first Prize in Neurology in 2008 [2] .

Rakich thoroughly investigated the process of neuromigration and the construction of the cerebral cortex in primates . He discovered a region of the brain that gives rise to future cortical neurons, which he called the subventricular zone .

Member of the National Academy of Sciences (1985) and Medical Academy (1999) of the USA, American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1994), foreign member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (1985), Academy of Sciences and Arts of Croatia (1990), Norwegian Academy of Sciences (2008) , European Academy (2014). Honorary Doctor of the University of Zagreb (1997), University of Buenos Aires (2011).
