Service pack

Service Pack (eng. - service pack , juice. - SP ) - a set of updates, patches, improvements to a computer program or OS , delivered as a single installation package. Many companies, such as Microsoft or Autodesk , usually release a service pack when the number of individual patches for a particular program reaches a certain limit. . Installing a service pack is simpler and therefore requires fewer requests for technical support from a company than installing a large number of patches individually, especially when updating software on multiple computers over a network.

Service packs are usually numbered, and are briefly indicated as SP1, SP2, SP3, etc. [1]

Difference and summary packages

A service pack can be “differential”, that is, containing only those updates that were not in previous service packs, or vice versa, “total”, that is, include the contents of all previous updates. In the case of Microsoft products, differential updates are commonly referred to as “service releases.” For example, Office 2000 must be updated before service release 1 (SR1) is released before installing SP2.

Often, service packs for a particular program are issued either only differential or only total. For this reason, two adjectives often point to a complete set of software update packages, such as in the sentence “Windows update packages are cumulative.”
