History

Soon after the victory of the Mongolian people's revolution in 1921, the new power of Mongolia formed the highest degree of distinction - a personal honorary title. He was appropriated by the People’s Government of the Mongolian People’s Republic. The first of such a title, “The Undaunted Hero of the Mongolian People's State”, was awarded on September 23, 1922, by the leader of the revolution, Damdin Suhe-Bator ; On April 24, 1924, the title of “Indomitable People's Hero” (“ Ardyn Khatanbaatar ”) was awarded to his associate S. Maksarzhav . Two more Mongolian servicemen were awarded this title for heroism in the battles on the border with Manzhou-Guo in 1936.

As the official highest honorary title standing above all awards and other honorary titles of the country, the title " Hero of the Mongolian People's Republic " was established by decree of the Presidium of the Small Khural MPR of July 5, 1941 in order to unify the personal honorary titles awarded in 1921 - 1941. But immediately after this, on July 10, 1941, Marshal Hoorlogiin Choibalsan was again awarded the personal title of “Tested Hero of the MPR”. Subsequently, all the titles mentioned were equated with the title of “Hero of the MPR”. This title was awarded to Mongolian and foreign citizens for their exceptional courage and dedication and for their outstanding feat. Subsequently, they began to be awarded to other persons for merits not related to the achievement of a personal feat, for example, the top leaders of Mongolia and the USSR.

In 1945, for persons awarded the title of “Hero of the Mongolian People’s Republic”, a special insignia was introduced - the medal “Golden Star of the Hero of the MPR”.
