Pallavichino

Ancestral coat of arms over the Vienna Palace of Pallavicini

Pallavacino or (later) Pallavicini - Italian feudal lords who owned land at the junction of the borders of Liguria , Lombardy , Emilia and Piedmont . Until the XVII century, they owned such cities as Busseto , Cortemaggiore , Fidenza , Nocheto , Roccabianca and Cibello .

In later Italian pedigrees, Pallavicini, along with Malaspina and Este, were ranked among the Oberts , the descendants of the Milan Margrave Oberto . In the middle of the X century, the Italian king Berengar II divided the north-west of Italy between him and two other Margraves - Arduin ( Turin became his capital) and Aleram (who chose Vercelli as his capital, the Monferrat dynasty comes from him).

On the pages of history, Pallavicini appeared in the 13th century in the person of Count Oberto (1197–1269), who, as one of the hired confectioners of the Ghibelline party, led to the submission of many Lombard cities to Emperor Frederick II ( Parma , Piacenza , Cremona , Pavia , Brescia ). For some time he also owned Milan . After Karl of Anjou arrived in Italy, he began to suffer defeats.

During the Francoocracy, the names of other Pallavicini rattled in the east of the Mediterranean - in the Latin Empire . Until 1313, they held in their hands the Marquisate of Bodonitsy off the Attic coast opposite Euboea, with its center in Vodonice near Thermopylae . Family ties of eastern Pallavicini with Lombard namesakes are not exactly established.

Lombard Pallavicini, thanks to an alliance with Milan's Visconti, retained such estates as Nocheto . The last overlord of these lands was Rolando the Magnificent (d. 1457), skillfully maneuvering between the main political forces of northern Italy. He divided his possessions between his sons, from whom the branches of the clan originated with centers in Busseto, Cortemaggiore, Cibello, Polesin and Tabiano .

The Pallavicini estates throughout the 16th century remained a tidbit for the Parma Farnese and were finally occupied by them in 1636. One of the branches of the clan left for the Savoyard yard and settled in Stupinigi , the other rebuilt Cortemaggiore in the ideal city of the Renaissance . At the court of Madrid, the representatives of the clan were named in the Spanish manner - Paravisino . Another branch ceased at Giorgio Pallavicini-Trivulzio (1796-1878), who met in the Italian Senate .

After the Habsburgs arrived in northern Italy , some branches of the clan switched to Austrian service and acquired estates in Hungary . The current Marquis Alfonso Pallavicini is married to the sister of the Belgian queen .
