Gay.ru is an information and entertainment site that positions itself as a national server for homosexual , bisexual and transgender people in Russia . Appeared in 1996, it remains one of the oldest in the Russian segment of the Internet. Founded by Eduard Mishin and Dmitry Sannikov. In March 2018, he was placed on the list of banned resources of Roskomnadzor for “ propaganda of non-traditional sexual orientation ”.

History
In its first year, Planet Internet magazine called Gay.ru “the most interesting and voluminous site for Russian gays” [1] . In 1998, the site entered the ranking of the 30 best projects of the year according to the Internet magazine [2] . In 2000, "Brodilka", an appendix to the magazine "Internet", included Gay.ru in the rating of the best Runet projects on "intimate life" [3] . In the same 2000, Gay.ru won in the category “Best Internet Site” the “Flask” award for its contribution to Russian gay culture. [4] Over the years, the site fell into the ratings of the online media of Kommersant Money (2000), Afisha (2000, 2001, 2004), Ohms (2004) and others.
Gay.ru is a participant in the National Forum of NGOs working in the field of HIV / AIDS prevention in Russia since 2003.
The project occupied the first position of the Erotic and Sex section in the Yandex catalog [5] as long as the catalog worked.
On March 30, 2018, Roskomnadzor entered the site Gay.ru in the register of prohibited resources, according to the decision of the Altai district court of the village of Bely Yar of the Republic of Khakassia in connection with “posting information that promotes non-traditional sexual relations, which was recognized as prohibited in the territory of the Russian Federation” [6] .

- 1999 year . The festival "Your chance" in the club "Chance": "a gay marathon with the participation of fashion designers, dancers, singers, sexologists, psychologists, writers." [7]
- 2001 year . Together with the LaSky Project, an educational show called Flammable Carmen, an entertainment program for HIV / AIDS prevention in 12 Moscow gay clubs.
- 2002 year . Festival of gay and lesbian films at the Central Station club ( Moscow ).
- 2003 year . Individual consultations for LGBT citizens with psychologists. The beginning of the publication of the monthly glossy magazine for gays “ Queer ”.
- 2004 year . Since July 1, a free helpline has been launched for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people with the support of WHO .
- 2005 year . Weekly self-help groups for gay men in Moscow resumed with organizational support from Gay.ru.
- 2006 year . Beginning of the publication of the monthly glossy newspaper for lesbians “Pinx”.
Site sections
- The “People” section contains biographies, interviews, and a brief description of the main works of many famous personalities related to homosexuality.
- The sections "Society" and "Science" contain information about the problems of interaction with society, homophobia , social aspects of gay culture, materials intended for gays. A significant part of the information provided in these sections is confirmed by international studies and the practice of human rights organizations. [8] Since 1998, the sociologist, anthropologist, philosopher and sexologist I.S. Kon conducted his own heading under this section.
- The Art section is about cultural achievements and works created by people with a supposed homosexual orientation.
- The sections "BBS" and "Dating" are created for communication of representatives of sexual minorities on various topics and personal acquaintances.
- The sections “Lifestyle” and “Gay-guide” help gays “look stylish in any circumstances”, navigate in unfamiliar cities and decide on the directions of tourism . HIV-related issues are also highlighted [9] .
