Patisson (from Fr. Pâtisson), or Plate Squash [1] - an annual herbaceous plant of the Pumpkin family, a type of common pumpkin ( Cucurbita pepo ). Cultivated around the world, in the wild, the plant is unknown.

The edible fruits of this plant are also called squash. They are boiled and fried, pickled and salted.
Title
In the domestic literature, the scientific name of the taxon is usually considered Cucurbita pepo var. patisson [1] . According to other sources, the scientific name of the taxon is Cucurbita pepo var. patisoniana [2] .
On the GRIN website, Cucurbita pepo L. subsp. Is considered the correct name for this taxon . ovifera ( L. ) DSDecker var. ovifera ( L. ) Harz (1885) ; the name is Cucurbita pepo var. patisson Filov (1969) , nom. nud. included in the synonymy of the taxon. Also, the names Cucurbita melopepo L. , Cucurbita ovifera L. basionym and Cucurbita pepo var. melopepo ( L. ) Harz [3] .
The Russian name of the plant is a borrowing from the French language ; the French word pâtisson is formed from pâté (pie), which is associated with the shape of the fruit [4] . Young fruits of squash, like cucumbers and zucchini, are called "chickens" [4] .
History
Patisson was imported to Europe from America [5] and became popular in many European countries in the 17th century. Later it began to be grown in the southern regions of Russia. Two centuries after the appearance in Europe, squash reached even Siberia [6] .
Biological Description
Patisson is a bushy or semi-bush-shaped herbaceous plant with large, relatively stiff leaves . Flowers are single, unisexual, monoecious , yellow in color. The fruit is pumpkin ; the shape and color of the fetus, depending on the variety , can vary greatly: the shape can be either bell-shaped or plate-shaped; color - white, yellow, green, sometimes with spots and stripes [1] .
Agricultural Engineering
This culture is demanding on moisture and soil, quite thermophilic. Reproduction - by seeds or seedlings ; plants should be planted at a distance of 70-80 cm from each other [1] .

A universal method of control does not exist, however, according to the handbook of Pesticides and Agrochemicals compiled by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, the main insecticides for squash are Decis Profi, Confidor Extra, Rofatox, G and Biostop, Zh.
