Biography
Edith MacDonald was born on August 21, 1895 and was the second daughter of Daniel and Anne MacDonald. Her father was a counterattack and politician. Even in her youth, she and her older sister Elsie and the youngest Janet MacDonald began to engage in theater training. Later, Edith and Janett also performed in vaudeville in Philadelphia .
After moving to New York in 1926 , Edith married Clarence Rock, with whom she toured with vaudeville for the next three years. After the end of the tour, she played for some time in theaters, before signing a contract with MGM , took the pseudonym Mary Blake and in 1937 made her debut in the film " Mannequin ". From 1938 to 1942 she played the role of telephone operator Sally in nine films about Dr. Kildare. In subsequent years, she continued to act in small episodic roles. Most notable was her role as a grandmother in the television series Addams Family , in which she starred from 1964 to 1966 .
In 1966 , Mary stopped filming and settled in the Cinema House for Older Actors in California . She died on January 14, 1978 , from a heart attack in Los Angeles at the age of 82. Mary Blake is buried in Glendale Forest Cemetery.
