Biography
Born March 25, 1944 in the village of Korzuny, Chervensky district of the Minsk region of Belarus in a peasant family [1] .
In 1962 he graduated from an agricultural college. In 1963-1966 he served in the Soviet Army , then worked as an agronomist [1] .
In 1975 he graduated from the Moscow Theological Seminary , after which he entered the Moscow Theological Academy [1] .
On January 9, 1978, at the Holy Assumption Zhirovichi Monastery, he was tonsured a monk with the name Stefan in honor of the First Martyr and Archdeacon Stephen . February 18, elevated to the rank of hierodeacon , November 6 - to the rank of hieromonk .
In 1979 he graduated from the Moscow Theological Academy with a degree of candidate of theology for his work “A Comparative Analysis of the Differences of the Triodi of the Lenten Edition of the Patriarchs Joseph, Nikon and Sergius (Preparatory Weeks for Great Lent)” [1] .
After that he returned to the Zhirovichi monastery, where he carried the obedience of the dean.
January 9, 1981 was elevated to the rank of archimandrite [1] .
On July 6, 1989, by a decision of the Holy Synod, he was appointed rector of the Minsk Theological Seminary [2] .
On September 13, 1989, he was appointed a member of the Commission of the Holy Synod for Publishing and Church Press.
Bishops
On February 16, 1990, by decree of the Synod of the Belarusian Exarchate, Archimandrite Stefan (Korzun), governor of the Holy Assumption Zhirovichi Monastery, was determined to be bishop of Pinsk and Luninets. The decision was approved on February 19, 1990 by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church [1] .
On March 4, 1990, after an All-Night Vigil in the Holy Spirit Cathedral of Minsk , the Archimandrite Stephen was bishop of Pinsky and Luninetsky appointed by the Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus Metropolitan of Minsk and Grodno Filaret (Vakhromeev) , Archbishop of Mogilev and Bishop Mogilevsky of Mogilevsky and Bishop and Kobrinsky Konstantin (Khomich) and bishop of Polotsk and Vitebsk Dimitri (Drozdov) [1] .
On February 25, 2000, in the Epiphany Cathedral in Moscow, Patriarch Alexy II was elevated to the rank of archbishop [1] [3] .
On April 4, 2019, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, having examined the petition of Archbishop Stephen for his retirement in connection with the achievement of the 75th anniversary, blessed to continue the administration of the Pinsk diocese [4] .
