Weather and Climate
The weather in the village does not differ significantly from the weather in Nakhodka .
Located on the border of the world's largest continent and the largest of the oceans, Wrangel is constantly experiencing the influence of these two giants. Monsoons dictate the weather here. The winds blow almost all year, therefore the temperature front depends on them in many respects.
Starting in November, the direction of the wind goes into the winter monsoon. The number of days with strong winds reaching 15 m / s is increasing. This month there are especially dangerous winds with a maximum speed of 35 - 40 m / s. In mid-October, the air temperature drops by 8 - 12 ° C. In December-January, the temperature slowly drops to –4 - –5 ° C. The coldest month of the year is January, the air temperature is −8 - −14 ° C.
In the cold season, when there is a constant difference between atmospheric pressure over the Asian continent and the Pacific Ocean, the frequency of northern storm winds increases. But along with this winter, there are often enough thaws. In some of the warmest years, the maximum air temperature in January can increase to −2 - +5 ° C, in February - up to 0 - +3 ° C. Starting in February, air temperature rises and at the end of March is about 3 ° C. A continuous increase in heat flow in March leads to a sharp increase in air temperature from day to day. Spring begins. True, it is lingering here. It is in the spring that the amount of fog increases. They arrive in March - April and last on average up to 11 days. As a rule, fogs begin during the period of prevalence of south and south-east winds.
The first half of summer is usually cool with frequent fogs and drizzle, and in the second half it gets hot and heavy rains come. The warmest time is August, the air temperature averages +21 ° C, but sometimes reaches +36 ° C or even +40 ° C. This month is quite quiet, and only during the invasion of cold air masses from the Sea of Okhotsk is an increase in the north-east wind observed. Due to dangerous hydrometeorological phenomena, rain showers are observed in summer (in less than 12 hours the amount of precipitation reaches 50 mm or more). Heavy rains are usually associated with the passage of typhoons and southern cyclones over areas of the Primorsky Territory. Summer precipitation is often accompanied by thunderstorms.
