The height of the building on the spire is 282.5 m. The skyscraper was for a short time the tallest structure in the world, but this title was taken from the Chrysler Building skyscraper built in the same year in the same city.
Previously, the skyscraper was called the Bank of Manhattan Trust building . It got its modern name in 1996 after it was purchased by Donald Trump .
Architecture
In 1998, a special commission from the city of New York assigned the status of a landmark to a building. Trump-building is the tallest building in New York, which is located inside the quarter.
Race for the tallest building in the world
It was planned that Wall Street 40 would be 41 meters higher than the Woolworth Building (241 m), built in 1913, located nearby. And, more importantly, according to the plan, it should have been half a meter above the skyscraper under construction, Chrysler Building (282 m).
However, the architects of Chrysler Building secretly changed the design height of the building after the completion of the construction of Wall 40. A 38-meter-high spire was built on the building, which made Walter Chrysler’s dream of owning the tallest building on Earth. But fame was fleeting, because a year later (in 1931 ) the construction of the Empire State Building was completed.
Modernity
Donald Trump purchased the skyscraper in 1996 and brought the building into proper shape, hoping to gain a significant amount at resale. However, the requested price still scares buyers.
In 1998, a special commission of the city of New York assigned the status of attractions to the Trump Building building. At the moment, the Trump Building is the tallest building in New York, located inside the quarter [1] .
