Written by Stephen King on the basis of his lectures at the university, “Features of the literature on the supernatural.” However, the book tells about the horror genre not only in literature, but also in cinema, on radio and television. King pays much attention to his personal experience with the horror genre. This makes the book partially autobiographical, making it possible to understand which works of the horror genre had the greatest influence on the formation of King as a writer.
In the book, the writer distinguishes four of the most significant archetypes of horror: a vampire , a werewolf , a ghost , an unnamed creature .
There are two appendices to the book: a list of significant films of the genre from 1950 to 1980 and a list of literature for the same period. Asterisk marks films and books that Steven King personally likes.
