Biography
Vasily Karataev was born in 1762; was a native of the “ headquarters officer children of the Chernigov province ”.
In 1774 he entered the military service in the Novotroitsk-Yekaterinoslavsky 4th Dragoon Regiment as a cadet , where five years later he was promoted to cornet .
He was directly involved in the Russo-Turkish War (1787-1791) , the Russo-Polish War of 1792 and the Polish events of 1794 .
For the courage shown in the battle near Heilsberg during the Fourth Coalition War, Karataev received the rank of colonel on December 12, 1807.
November 15, 1807 led the Novotroitsk-Yekaterinoslav 4th Dragoon Regiment .
October 12, 1811 Vasily Karataev took command of the Astrakhan cuirassier regiment.
The outbreak of the Patriotic War of 1812, Karataev met in the regiment entrusted to him, who fought as part of the 1st cuirassier brigade of the 1st cuirassier division and was part of the 5th reserve guard corps of the First Western Army. He was twice wounded during the Battle of Borodino .
March 16, 1813 Karataev was awarded the title of Major General. In this title, in 1813 he took part in a foreign campaign of the Russian army, during which he was again wounded in the Battle of the Peoples . severe wounds made themselves felt, and in the same year, Vasily Ivanovich Karataev died.
