Sudakov, Ilya Yakovlevich

Ilya Sudakov ( 1890 - 1969 ) - Soviet theater director , theater and film actor, People's Artist of the RSFSR (1938), twice winner of the Stalin Prize (1942, 1951). Member of the CPSU (b) since 1940 .

Biography

Ilya Sudakov was born in the village of Rostovka, Nizhnelomovsky district, Penza province [2] [3] . His father was a deacon. Penza Theological Seminary [4] did not graduate, maybe. for participation in the revolutionary circle was in 1910 imprisoned [5] . In the years 1911-1914. served a link in the Kansky district of the Yenisei province [6] . In 1914-1916 he studied at the People's University of A. L. Shanyavsky . In 1916 he was admitted to the 2nd studio of the Moscow Art Theater ; since 1919, he also played small roles in performances of the Art Theater (“ At the Bottom ”, “Tsar Fedor Ioannovich” , “Blue Bird” , “Death of Pazukhin” ). In the 2nd studio he made his debut as a director, staging in 1923 the “Thunderstorm” by A. N. Ostrovsky [2] .

In 1924, after the closure of the 2nd studio, Ilya Sudakov, like her other actors and directors, was transferred to the Moscow Art Theater. Here he became one of the most active builders of a new, modern repertoire: under the artistic direction of K. S. Stanislavsky , together with V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko , and also independently carried out a number of productions, including such iconic ones as “Turbin Days " M. A. Bulgakov and " Armored train 14-69 " Sun. Ivanova ; contributed a lot to the statement on the stage of the Art Theater of Contemporary Drama, personally worked with the authors [7] . As an actor, Sudakov during this period basically replaced other actors in those performances in which he was a co-director [2] .

In 1933, Sudakov headed the Moscow Theater of Working Youth (TRAM), continuing to stage performances at the Moscow Art Theater. In 1937, he was appointed chief director of the Maly Theater , which he headed until 1944 [8] . In 1944-1946 he directed the Theater Studio of a film actor , in 1946 he returned to the Moscow Art Theater, where he worked until 1948. In 1948-1952 he headed the Central Transport Theater , in 1952-1953 - the Y. Kupala Theater [7]

Ilya Sudakov also paid a lot of attention to teaching activities: in 1930-1956 he taught at GITIS , in 1941 he was awarded the title of professor [9] .

In 1957, Ilya Yakovlevich was appointed the main director of the Moscow Drama Theater (now the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya), the collective had great hopes for this appointment, but he managed to stage only one performance and became seriously ill [10] .

Ilya Sudakov died on September 1, 1969 . He was buried in Moscow at the Novodevichy cemetery (plot number 7).
