Known for his work on the flora of the Far East , especially Japan , published jointly with Philip von Siebold on the basis of materials collected by the latter; as well as botanical descriptions of plants collected in other regions of the Earth (in particular, in the Americas ).
He studied medicine and natural history at the University of Erlangen (1815-1819) with Christian Nes von Esenbeck . After graduation, he returned to his native Munich, where he began work in the botanical garden under the guidance of Franz Schrank .
In 1823 he was elected adjunct of the Bavarian Royal Academy of Sciences and taught botany at the Royal Lyceum .
In 1824 he began to give lectures at the Medical and Surgical Institute in Munich , in 1826 he was appointed extraordinary , and in 1835 he became an ordinary professor of agricultural and forestry botany at the University of Munich.
In 1827 he was elected a corresponding member , and in 1839 - an academician of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences.
In 1836, after the death of Schrank, he took the place of the keeper of the botanical garden.
Since 1820, he described and systematized the herbarium collected in Brazil by Carl von Marcius .
The plant genus Zuccharinia ( Zuccarinia Blume ) of the Marenova family was named by Carl Ludwig Blume in 1826 in his honor.
