Catholic Center

The Ozernoye village of the Tayynshinsky district is an important center of Catholicism in Kazakhstan . The village was founded in 1936 by the Poles , exiled to Kazakhstan from Volyn . When the inhabitants were threatened by hunger, springs suddenly clogged in the vicinity of the village, from which a lake full of fish 5-7 km long was formed. This event dates from the day of the Annunciation - March 25, 1941 and is regarded as a miracle . In 1954, the status of special settlers began to soften; in 1956, the inhabitants of Ozerny were completely freed from restrictions. At the same time ( 1955 ), the wonderful lake dried up, but you can still see the channel through which a stream of water passed in 1941 [3] .

In 1990, a Catholic parish was officially formed in Ozernoye, and in May construction of the church began. The parish and the temple were named in honor of the Virgin Mary of the Queen of Peace ( Polish Matki Bożej Królowej Pokoju ). The building was consecrated by Cardinal Jozef Glemp on August 9, 1992 , and the consecration of the temple itself was performed by Bishop Jan Pavel Lenga on June 27, 1993 . The first abbot ( 1990 - 1999 ) was about. Tomas Pat , later - the apostolic administrator and then the archbishop metropolitan of the Archdiocese of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the city of Astana . The parish also includes 12 houses of worship within a radius of 60 km around Ozerny [4] .

In 1997, at the place where the wonderful lake was located, a statue of the Virgin "with fish" was installed on a high pillar. In 1998, a cross was put up on the Volyn Sopka - a monument to all victims of repression in Kazakhstan.

In 2006, Benedictine monks arrived in Ozernoye from Switzerland . Since 2007, Carmelite nuns from Czestochowa have been living in Ozerny; their reclusive monastery was consecrated in 2013 [5] . Sisters from the congregation of servants of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary (since 1994 ) work in the parish.

On July 11, 2011, the parish in Ozerny was officially declared the national sanctuary of the Virgin Mary of the Queen of Peace, the patroness of Kazakhstan. The sanctuary is a place of mass pilgrimage for Catholics from all over the country. For many years, meetings have been held in Ozernoye with the Catholic youth of Kazakhstan; The 15th meeting (in the summer of 2013 ) was international.
