Several brick buildings located in a square form this complex, located in the southern part of the Gürtel ring road. This is the most famous architectural composition in the style of romantic historicism in Vienna - the complex was created in medieval Italian and Islamic-Byzantine styles. In general, the complex is preserved in its original form, although several buildings in the courtyard were demolished.
The complex was built in the period from 1848 to 1856 in the light of the March revolution of 1848 and was the first of three complexes that replaced the old fortification system of Vienna. During the First World War, served as an arsenal and barracks . In 1945, the Arsenal was badly damaged by bombing, but after the war was restored to its original state.
Arsenal's buildings are square, and inside the confined space there is an extensive parade ground. In one of the buildings is a military-historical museum, which can carry the title of the greatest and oldest in the world.
It is interesting that this building was originally conceived as a museum, but its exposition was supposed to tell about the best generals of the state in the entire history of its existence. But it so happened that the entire military history of Austria, from the 16th century to 1945, was housed in the museum. Here is the most complete collection of bronze cannons, and each exhibition is dedicated to a war from the history of Austria, including the last.
The complex includes the Vienna Military History Museum .
