Sergey Grigoryevich Klyashtorny ( February 4, 1928 , Gomel - September 21, 2014 , St. Petersburg ) is a Soviet and Russian orientalist of Belarusian origin. Doctor of historical sciences, professor.

Biography

In 1945 - 1950 He studied at the East Department of Leningrad State University in the departments of Turkic Philology and History of the Near and Middle East.

In 1950 - 1957 - An employee of the All-Union Institute of Geology ( VSEGEI ) as a bibliographer (until 1953 ), and then - head of the reference and bibliographic department. In 1957 he was transferred to the post of junior researcher in the Turkology and Mongolian sector of the Leningrad branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences . In 1960 - 1962 - Head of the library LO IVAN USSR.

In 1962 he defended his thesis on the theme “Ancient Turkic runic monuments as a source on the history of Central Asia” (supervisors - A. N. Bernshtam and S. E. Malov ). Since 1963 - Head of the Türkology and Mongolistics Sector of the LO IVAN USSR ( SPb FIV RAS ).

Since 1964 , Mr .. - Senior Researcher of the sector. Since 1969 - lecturer at the Department of Turkic Philology of Leningrad State University, since 1995 - lecturer at the Department of Central Asia and the Caucasus, St. Petersburg State University. Since 1992 - professor.

Until 2013, he was in charge of the Central Asia sector and the Central and South Asia Department of the Institute for International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences [1] .

In 2005 he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Permanent International Altaistic Conference.
