History
The Kazakh State Teaching Institute of Foreign Languages was established by decree of the USSR Government No. 1696 of September 16, 1940. In the summer of 1941, the institute began accepting teachers and preparing for the first set of students [1] .
In late 1941, the first charter of the institute was approved, according to which it was an independent educational institution approved by the People's Commissariat of Kazakh SSR. The Institute consisted of three faculties (English, German, French), whose deans were nominated from among professors or associate professors in the leading disciplines of this faculty and approved by the People's Commissariat of the Kazakh SSR on the recommendation of the director of the institute [1] .
The enrollment of the 1941-1942 school year showed that the Institute, like other universities of the republic, had very few students of Kazakh nationality, and therefore from April 1, 1942, four-month training courses for Kazakh girls with a contingent of 330 people were organized [ 1] .
Since April 1944, the institute was called the Kazakh Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages [1] .
In 1983, 4,500 students studied at the institute at 3 faculties (English, German, French), 412 teachers worked at 30 departments, among them 7 professors and doctors of sciences, 112 associate professors and candidates of sciences [2] .
The modern name Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages named after Abylay Khan received in 1998 [3] .

University Historical Building
The building for the Kazakh Institute of Foreign Languages was built in 1940 according to the project of architects G. Wozniuk and Yu.M. Kudryavtseva. It is located at ul. Tole bi, 84. It has classrooms and an assembly hall. [5]
After the construction of a new building at ul. Muratbaeva, 200 administration and a number of university departments were transferred there. Thus, the historical building became the ordinary building of the educational institution.
Currently, the building is the Abylai Khan Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages No. 2, which houses the faculty for the study of English. [6]
Architecture
The university building was built in recycled forms of classical architecture. It represents a facade extended in the latitudinal direction of a three-story, asymmetric, "T" -shaped building plan, flanked by two risalits. The main entrance is located in the corner risalit and is accented by elements of decor of classical architecture. The high attic plane is framed by three relief semicircular arches, based on multi-profile shelves. The arched space inside is decorated with medallions with elements of Soviet heraldry. The building is crowned with a cornice of a complex profile. The walls of the building are brick, plastered, whitewashed and painted pink. The planning structure of the corridor type building [7] .
