The strokes

Most of the band's members, one way or another, were associated with vocalist and songwriter Julian Casablancas. Bassist Nikolai Freightour and Casablancas met in early childhood. Guitarist Nick Valency and drummer Fabrizio Moretti started playing together when they were in school. A little later, Casablancas went to study at the Le Rossi Institute in Switzerland, as he had problems with behavior and addiction to alcohol in his youth, which is why Julian did not go well at school. In Le Rossi, Casablancas met Albert Hammond the Younger, most likely due to the fact that they were both Americans. They were not particularly close friends, because Hammond was 2 years younger than Casablancas. A few years later they met again in New York and then they officially christened themselves “The Strokes” (before that, however, having changed several more names, such as “De Niros”, “The Motels”). Their popularity in New York gradually grew. At one of the concerts, they were noticed by Ryan Gents. He was so impressed by their work that he quit his job in order to become their manager.

The team began to rehearse, continuing to remain at their work (Casablancas worked as a bartender, and Hammond worked part-time in a video shop). They already had a list of several songs, which included: “Last Nite”, “The Modern Age”, “This Life” (an early version of the song “Trying Your Luck”), “New York City Cops”, “Soma”, "Someday" and others. Now the words of some of these songs are changed from the first versions. The songs “Sagganuts”, “In Her Prime”, “Rhythm Song”, “A Minor 4-4,” “Elephant Song”, and three more with unknown names were excluded from the Strouks repertoire. “Rhythm Song”, “In Her Prime” and “This Life” can be heard in the early single.

Gordon Rafael, the not-so-famous rock producer of the New York underground scene, once got to the concert “The Strokes”. True, after a few years, he nevertheless admitted that he was going to a concert of a completely different group. Rafael gave the telephone number to Hammond, saying that he would gladly have made them a demo.

The single “The Modern Age” was released in 2001 and contained the songs: “Last Nite”, “Barely Legal” and “The Modern Age”, which were slightly different from their versions from the album. The single has sparked a real war among record labels.

In 2001 , the album "This This It" was released, in 2006 - after the album "Room On Fire" a third was released, "First Impressions Of Earth". “The Strokes” make a tour in his support, including playing one concert in Moscow (one of the last concerts in DK Gorbunov ).

March 22, 2011 the group released an album called "Angles".

In 2013, an album called “Comedown Machine” was released.

• Observer Music Monthly, a monthly supplement to the British newspaper The Guardian , has published a list of the best albums of the first decade of the 21st century . The album "Is This It", took fourth place in this list ^[1] . The same album took second place in a similar list of Rolling Stone magazine ^[2] , and in a similar rating of New Musical Express magazine - first place ^[3] .
• The first minutes of the Transformers movie we can see the main character played by Shia LaBeouf in a T-shirt with the logo of the band The Strokes.
• The songs "The Strokes" often appear in football simulations. “New York City Cops” sounded in PES 2011 , and “Machu Picchu” can be heard in FIFA 12 .
