Story
Company of school friends: Amy, her husband James (along with their little daughter Sarah), Amy's former love and “yacht owner” - Dan, his next girlfriend Michelle, as well as their friends Zach and Lauren, meet years later to mark 30 Zach's anniversary. On Dan's new yacht, they begin their trip to Mexico City .
A few miles from shore, Michelle suggests stopping and taking a dip in the sea. Amy stays aboard with her daughter. Amy's father died during their bathing together and after that she developed aqua phobia . Remaining also Dan in a fit of self-indulgence, not listening to Amy's hysterical screams, takes her in her arms and jumps overboard. And only when everyone was in the water and bathed, they found that they forgot to lower the ladder.
Only a baby remained on the ship, and none of the adults can get back to the yacht, because its sides are too high. The battle around life and death takes place on the sea. They make numerous but unsuccessful attempts to get on board the yacht:
- try to just jump to the side, pushing off from the water;
- try to get up on an inflatable dolphin toy, but it is too slippery and quickly deflates;
- the American flag, waving at the stern, is fragile and does not hold Dan clinging to it;
- in a hanging jacket, Zach's cell phone rings, they pull the jacket into the water, but they don’t have time to transfer anything and the wet phone stops;
- they are trying to signal the passing yachts, but their passengers do not understand the plight of the bathers and simply wave their hands to them;
- they tie their clothes and throw them on board, but the “rope” is torn.
However, with all this, Dan does not allow his comrades to make notches on board with a knife, as he is afraid to damage the yacht - it turns out he took the boat without permission from his boss, and pretended to be her owner.
Despite the absence of sharks and other aggravating circumstances, the participants of the tragedy themselves create difficulties for themselves. One by one they perish or float away from the scene:
- Michelle is drowning with fatigue.
- Zack, having quarreled with hysterical Dan, gets a knife injury and dies from blood loss.
- James, rescuing a sinking knife, swims too deep and hitting the bottom of the yacht during the ascent. Blood from the ear shows that he suffered a head injury. By the end of the film, he is dying.
- Lauren, unable to withstand inaction, swims away hoping to reach the shore and call for help. Her fate is completely unknown.
During the beginning of the storm , Dan, feeling guilty for the death of his comrades, decides to pierce the side of the yacht with glass for swimming glasses. Dan sticks the glass in the gap between the board and the folding ladder, while he is holding onto it with his hand. Using Dan's hand as a rung, Amy is finally moving over the side. When she lowers the ladder, Dan decides to drown. When Amy notices this, she overcomes her phobia and swims after him.
At the end of the film is shown a fishing vessel that discovers an empty yacht. There is nobody on her deck, and only the loud cry of little Sarah is heard. After that, viewers see Amy standing on the deck and Dan lying unconscious in front of her, but there is no longer a ship sailing, and only the sound of its engine is heard behind the scenes.
