Gargagliani

Gargagliani [3] ( Greek Γαργαλιάνοι [2] ) is a small town in Greece . Located at an altitude of 287 meters above sea level [1] , 5 kilometers east of the Ionian coast at the southwestern tip of the Peloponnese , 210 kilometers southwest of Athens , 42 kilometers west of Kalamata and 35 kilometers to west of the airport "Kapitan-Vasilis-Konstandakopakulos" . History

The region has been inhabited since about 3000 BC. e. It belonged to the ancient city of Pylos , the possession of the mythological king Nestor [5] . During the reign of the Venetians was named Gargaliano ( Italian: Gargaliano ) [6] . Destroyed during the Greek revolution . In the last quarter of the XIX century and at the beginning of the XX century it was the center of raisin production [4] .

In 1912, the Gargalliani community was created.

At the end of August 1935, a strike of winegrowers began, which lasted three days. The government sent two divisions and a warship against the strikers [7] .
