Came from the nobility of the Kharkov province .

Having begun his service, upon leaving the Noble Regiment in 1842, as an ensign of the Life Guards of the Lithuanian Regiment , three years later he was assigned to the Military Academy , which he graduated with the rank of lieutenant and a small silver medal.

In 1849, Staff Captain N. M. Batesatul was transferred to the General Staff and, being at the headquarters of the 7th Infantry Division , and then the 1st Army Corps, took part in a campaign in Hungary .

During the Eastern War of 1853-1856 Batesatul distinguished himself in the battle of Oltenitsa , in which he was shell-shocked by a core in his head; He participated in operations on the left bank of the Danube , in crossing the latter near Brailov , in the occupation of Machin and Girsov , in the siege of Silistria and the defense of Sevastopol , in operations in the vicinity of Yevpatoriya . For this campaign he received: a golden half-saber with the inscription “For courage” , orders: St. Vladimir of the 4th degree with a bow and St. Anna of the 2nd degree with swords, and the rank of colonel, with the approval of the position of Chief Quartermaster 2 reserve cavalry corps.

Transferred to the same position in the 4th Army Corps in the second half of 1856, Batesatul was appointed two years later the chief of staff of the 2nd Army Corps, and in 1861, with the production of the rank of Major General, Quartermaster General 1st army.

Since 1863, he was a quartermaster general in the army in the Caucasus , where in 1864 he took part in expeditions against the highlanders , and for distinctions he was awarded the Order of St. Stanislav 1st degree with swords.

With the establishment of the military districts, in 1864 Batezatul was appointed chief of staff of the Kazan military district and remained in this position until the outcome of 1867, when, due to his unwell health, he was fired on annual leave abroad. During his vacation, he compiled significant work entitled "Strategic Essays on the Present Situation of European States" ( "Military Digest . " - 1868). Upon his return, Batezatul was given command of the 7th Infantry Division and was soon promoted to lieutenant general , but poor health forced him to leave service in 1869.

Enrolled in the reserve troops, he settled in his native village of Titovka, Belgorod district [1] , where he died - January 7 ( 19 ), 1872 - according to the Polovtsov dictionary, January 28 ( February 9 ), 1872 - according to the Yearbook of the Russian army ...

His older brother, Alexander Mikhailovich, also rose to the rank of general and was the chief of staff of the Kharkov military district .
