Babichi - a village in the Smolensk region of Russia , in the Elninsky district . Population - 22 inhabitants (2007) [1] . Located in the south-eastern part of the region, 25 km south-east of the town of Yelnya , 19 km east of the P137 Safonovo - Roslavl highway, 9 km south of the P96 Novoaleksandrovsky highway (A101) - Spas-Demensk - Yelnya - Pochinok . Northeast of the village is the source of the Ugra River. 15 km north of the village is the Korobets railway station on the Smolensk - Sukhinichi line . Included in the Mutishchensky rural settlement.

History
During the Great Patriotic War, the village was a place of fierce fighting and was twice occupied by Nazi troops. The first time in July 1941 (released during the Yelninskoy operation ), the second time in October 1941 (released during the Yelninsk-Dorogobuzh operation in 1943 ). The 68th Army was liberated [2] [3] [4] .
