New Shcherbino is a village in the Smolensk region of Russia , in the Elninsky district . The population is 17 inhabitants (2007) [1] . It is located in the southeastern part of the region 18 km southwest of the city of Yelnya , 11 km west of the R137 Safonovo - Roslavl highway, 12 km south of the P96 Novoaleksandrovsky (A101) - Spas-Demensk - Yelnya - Pochinik roads. It is part of the Malyshevsky rural settlement. Separated from the village of Old Shcherbino by the river Nedna .

History
During the Great Patriotic War, the village was the site of fierce fighting and was twice occupied by Nazi troops. The first time in July 1941 (released during the Yelninsk operation ), the second time in October 1941 (released during the Yelninsk-Dorogobuzh operation in 1943 ). It was liberated by the 68th Army [2] [3] [4] .
