Regiment Formation and Campaigns

The regiment was formed on August 20, 1798 in Uglich , as part of two battalions, under the name Musketeer Major General Brandt, the regiment and then was called by the names of other chiefs: Major General Merkulov regiment (from April 22, 1799) and Kashkina regiment (from December 14, 1800 ) On March 31, 1801, Emperor Alexander I named the regiment the Olonets Musketeers and brought in three battalions.

In 1806, the Olonets regiment, being in the Miloradovich’s corps, was in the occupation of Bucharest , the following year took part in an expedition to JourgΓ© , in the affairs of March 5 and 6 near Turbat and in the battle near Obilesti (June 2).

On April 27, 1807, the 1st battalion became part of the detachment of Major General Isaev, who was sent to Craiova to join the Serbian governor Georgy Cherny and defeated the Turks at Izvorino-Alba on May 14, distinguished himself in Malaynits, and on the other on July 18 day, together with the Serbs, repelled the offensive of the Turks from Vidin .

In 1809, the Olonets regiment participated in the battle of Zhurzhe and then guarded Wallachia from Turkish raids, and in 1810 again acted together with the Serbs in the battle of Prague and during the storming of Dudu and Bregov on March 12 and September 24.

On June 22, 1811, during an unsuccessful assault on Ruschuk, the regiment heroically withstood the attacks of superior cavalry forces and, on the offensive, repelled 5 guns captured by the Turks.

February 22, 1811, the regiment was named Olonets Infantry Regiment .

In World War II, the regiment became part of the 3rd Reserve Army and fought with the Austrians at the Gornostaevites and Volkovysk .

In the campaign of 1813, the Olonets regiment was first at the blockade of Glogau , and then participated in the battles of Bauzen , Reichenbach , Katzbach and Leipzig .

In 1814 - during the blockade of Kassel and in the battles of Soissons and Paris .

During the war of 1828-1829 with Turkey, the Olonets regiment participated in the blockade of Zhurzhi, the siege of Silistra , the battle of Kulevche and the campaign for the Balkans .

In 1831, the Olonets regiment participated in battles with Polish insurgents at the Ponar Heights and in the assault on Warsaw , during which it lost its commander, Colonel Tukhachevsky. For the valiant participation in this assault, the regiment was granted December 6, 1831 signs on hats with the corresponding inscription.

On January 28, 1833, the Penza Infantry Regiment was attached to the Olonets Regiment and the regiment was made up of 4 active and 2 reserve battalions.

In the 1849 campaign against the rebellious Hungarians, the Olonets regiment participated in the battle of Debrecen .

On March 10, 1854, the 7th and 8th reserve battalions were formed at the regiment.

On July 25, 1855, the Olonets regiment arrived in Sevastopol and was on August 4, 1855 - in the battle on the Black River , and from August 5 to 27 - as part of the garrison of Sevastopol, occupying the 2nd bastion and the adjacent curtain wall. For the heroic defense of this bastion on August 27, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th battalions were awarded August 30, 1856 with St. George banners with the inscription "3a Sevastopol in 1854 and 1855." In the same year, three companies of the Olonets Regiment were separated and aimed at forming the Odessa Jaeger Regiment .

After the Eastern War, the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th battalions were abolished, the 4th battalion was assigned to the reserve troops, and the entire regiment was brought on August 23, 1856 into three battalions with three rifle companies. On May 27, 1860, Prince Karl of Bavaria was appointed chief, and his name was added to the name of the regiment.

In 1863, the Olonets Regiment, occupying the Wloclaw County, took an active part in the suppression of the Polish rebellion . On April 6, 1863, from the 4th reserve battalion and indefinite leave of lower ranks, the two-battalion Olonets Reserve Infantry Regiment was formed, named August 13, 1863 by the Orenburg Infantry Regiment (this regiment inherited the seniority of the Penza Infantry Regiment, abolished in 1833). March 25, 1864 Olonets regiment received number 14th.

On October 23, 1866, on the occasion of the death of the chief, the regiment was named the 14th Olonetsky Infantry. On April 7, 1879, the 4th battalion was formed.

August 20, 1898, the day of the centenary, the regiment was granted the new St. George flag with an additional inscription "1798-1898."

On August 19, 1911, the Serbian king Peter I was appointed chief of the Olonets regiment. The regiment also lists the Serbian Crown Prince Alexander .
