History
Initially, Nikulin and Shuydin worked together in the Pencil group as assistants of a famous clown. Soon, having left Karandash, in 1950 they created their clown duet. Their first joint work was the clowning problem “The Sore Problem” (by L. Kukso ). Then there were the pantomime “Little Pierre” (its author is Yuri Nikulin’s father, Vladimir Nikulin ) and the clowning show “Scene on a Horse” [1] .
The comedies of most of the scenes played by the duet were based on the contradiction of the characters of the images. Nikulin (Yurik) is a phlegmatic, unsmiling character, not without traits of touching and naivety. Shuydin is an enterprising master of all trades , a resilient “shirt-guy”, a bully, who always seeks to play his friend [1] .
In some interludes of the duet, Tatiana Nikolayevna’s wife, Yuri Nikulin, acted as the third partner [1] .
The duo participated in foreign tours, such as: Great Britain , Australia , France , Belgium , Brazil , GDR , Canada , Poland , USA , Uruguay , Sweden , Japan [1] .
