Local search engine or personal search - software for quick search of information in user files . In other words, it is a search engine that searches not on the Internet , but on a storage device connected to the user's personal computer .

Local search engines can search for information in e-mail , in the log of visited browser pages and in instant messaging clients , in audio and video files , and simply in office and text documents .
