History

Diamond DA40-TDI Diamond Star

The company was founded in the city of Frieze , Austria in 1981 under the name Hoffmann Flugzeugbau for the production of composite motorized gliders H36. The production of Hoffman Aircraft Limited began in 1985, at the same time the headquarters was moved to Vienna , Austria and the construction of the MkII model began. In 1987, the airport in Wiener Neustadt became the company's new location. In 1991, the parent company was renamed HOAC AG and acquired the Dries Family. In the same year, Diamond began work on the HK36R and Rotax 912 motor gliders, which were the predecessors of the DV20 Katana (the first Diamond single-engine GA series aircraft).

Diamond DA42 TwinStar

In 1992, in order to gain access to the North American market, the company opened production facilities in London , Ontario , Canada . This plant was named Dimona Aircraft , which was later changed to Diamond Aircraft in 1996.

Austrian aircraft DV20 Katana was certified in 1993, the first Canadian-made aircraft took off in 1995. He received the Flight Magazine Eagle Award for the best light aircraft of the year. 1997 was marked by the construction of the 500th DV20 and the start of production of the DA20-C1 with even better flight performance and carrying capacity. The DA20-C1 Eclipse (an advanced version of the DA20-C1) also went into production.

In 2011, the company sold control in a Canadian subsidiary to the Dubai-based Medrar Financial Group [1] to support the production and development of the D-jet program. However, the deal was broken at the beginning of 2013. Diamond suspended the D-jet program and returned to finding an investor. [2]

In 2013, Rostec announced a collaboration with Diamond to create aircraft production in Russia for 9 and 19 passengers. Total investment in the project will amount to about 10 billion rubles. until 2018. [3]

Also in January 2013, it was announced that the Austro Engine (a subsidiary of Diamond Aircraft Industries) is completing the development of a new 27 kg rotor-piston engine with 80 hp. (58 kW) (AE80R). [four]
