History

The Trinity Church in Zatmachye was built by the Moscow merchant Gavrila Andreevich Tushinsky in 1564. On the western side of the cathedral is the inscription:

Summer 7072, this church was completed in the name of the Life-Giving Trinity of the month of August 15 under the noble king Grand Duke Ivan Vasilievich and all Russia and under Bishop Akakii Tfersky with the concept and construction of the servant of God Gabriel Andreev Toushinsky.

According to researchers, the temple originally had one to three chapters, but was rebuilt and became seven-domed in the 17th century. In 1787, the Efremov border was added, in 1812 - a two-tier bell tower, in 1864 - 67 years. - the side chapel of St. Arseny, Bishop of Tver and the Martyr Tatiana, in 1878 - the third tier and tent. Researchers date the church’s iconostasis to the 18th century, wall painting - the period from the end of the 18th to the middle of the 19th centuries.

After the redevelopment of Zatmachye in 1777, the church was not far from the border of the city, and for some time it stood at the outskirts of the city on the side of the Staritskaya Zastava. Later, a residential quarter was built behind the church, and the church was in the center of Zatmachye. Around the church, a square was formed at the intersection of two streets, the square was called Troitskaya Square, and the street that led to the Kremlin was called Trinity Street.

Since 1962, for more than 25 years, this church has remained the only active church in the city of Kalinin , whose population over the years has grown from 290,000 to 450,000 people.
