Julie Marie Benz (also known as Benz ) ( born Julie Marie Benz , born May 1, 1972, Pittsburgh , PA ) is an American actress and former skater . Best known for her role as Rita Bennett in the television series Dexter , for which she won the Satellite Award in 2006 as Best Supporting Actress in the series . Also known for the role of Darla in the TV series Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer .

Biography
Childhood
Julie Benz was born in Pittsburgh , PA . [2] Her father was a Pittsburgh surgeon. The family moved to the neighboring city of Merrisville when she was only 2 years old and already at the age of 3 she began to skate. In 1988, she took 13th place in the U.S. Junior Ice Dancing Championships with her partner David Schilling. Her older brother Jeffrey and sister Jennifer were US champions in ice dancing in 1987, participated in international competitions. When Julie was 14 years old, she was seriously injured and left the sport. In the suburbs of Merrisville, she graduated from Franklin Regional High School [3] , and later - New York University [4] .
Career
By 1989, when her career in figure skating was over, Benz took up acting and participated in a local theater, where she got a role in the performance of Street Law. Her first role in the film was small, episodic, but with a speech performance and quite successful, in the second part of the Black Cat horror film Two Evil Eyes , co-directed by Dario Argento / George A. Romero, (1990). A year later, she got a role in the TV show "Hi Honey, I'm Home" (1991), which was discontinued after two seasons.
Personal life
Benz was married to actor John Cashier [5] from May 30, 1998 , until she divorced in December 2007. On May 5, 2012, she married Rich Orozco, with whom she had been engaged for almost a year. [6]
