U.S. Central Command

The United States Central Command ( eng. United States Central Command ; USCENTCOM or CENTCOM ) - a single command within the US Armed Forces , responsible for planning operations and commanding American troops in the event of hostilities in the regions of the Middle East , East Africa and Central Asia . The central command was organized on January 1, 1983 and is one of nine such structures within the US Department of Defense . The headquarters is located at McDill Air Base ( Tampa , Florida ).

Currently, the Central Command is responsible for all US military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan .
