Elena Belova ( in girlhood - Novikova ; born July 28, 1947 , Sovetskaya Gavan , Primorsky Krai , RSFSR , USSR [1] ) - Soviet rapier fencer , 4-time Olympic champion, multiple world champion and the USSR, the only Olympic champion (among women) in an individual form in the history of Soviet fencing.

Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1968), Honored Worker of Physical Culture of the Byelorussian SSR (1979), Honored Trainer of the Republic of Belarus (1994) [2] . She played for Dynamo Minsk . The first coach was Herman Bokun , then she trained with Larisa Bokun . [3]

Biography
Before the Olympic Games in Mexico City in 1968, she married athlete Vyacheslav Belov and took his last name, under which she spoke until the end of her sports career in 1980.
Member of the CPSU since 1974. For her contribution to the world Olympic movement and high sports achievements she was awarded the Trophy for the 100th anniversary of the IOC “For Olympic Ideals” (1994), the IOC Silver Order (1997), as well as the Pierre de Coubertin Medal (2007), member of the FIE Hall of Fame (2015) . The ex-record holder in the number of gold Olympic medals in women's foil fencing was included in the Guinness Book of Records (in 2008, the famous Italian Valentina Vezzali , who won her fifth gold, passed Belov in Beijing ). She was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples , two orders of the Badge of Honor , the Order of the Fatherland of the III degree and the Order of Honor (2017) [4] .
The second husband of Elena is the composer Valery Ivanov, who wrote “Romantic Waltz” in her honor.
Currently, Belova is a professor at the Belarusian State University of Physical Education . Honorary citizen of the city of Minsk . [5]
