In the Ziller Valley, there are small villages and towns - Fuegen , Zell am Ziller , Finkenberg and Mayrhofen . All of them form a single ski area of slopes, lifts, alpine hotels. Each year, the Mayrhofen district attracts up to 35% of all tourists coming to the resorts of Tirol. There are 487 km of prepared routes with a height difference of 630 to 3250 m. In addition, there are therapeutic thermal springs.
Previously, the Ziller river ( German: Ziller ), flowing along the valley, was borderline and divided the lands of the Habsburgs and the Salzburg episcopate. After joining the valley to Tyrol, the parishes of the valley were divided into different bishops. Today it can be seen in different colors of the turrets of the churches: red - Innsbruck , green - Salzburg .
The Zillertal Railway runs through the valley.
