Pavel Pavlovich Virsky ( Ukrainian: Pavlo Pavlovich Virsky ; 1905 - 1975 ) - Soviet Ukrainian ballet dancer , choreographer , choreographer , teacher . People's Artist of the USSR ( 1960 ) [2] . Laureate of the USSR State Prize ( 1970 ) and the Stalin Prize of the first degree ( 1950 ).

Biography
Pavel Virsky was born on February 12 (25), 1905 in Odessa, in a noble family of engineer Pavel Pavlovich and the Olympiad Alekseevna Virsky. He was raised in the family with his younger brother Alexei.
In 1923 he graduated from the Richelieu Gymnasium in Odessa.
In 1923 - 1927 he studied at the Odessa Music and Drama College (now the Odessa College of Arts and Culture named after K. F. Dankevich ) (teacher V.I. Presnyakov), in 1927 - 1928 - at the State Ballet School at the Bolshoi Theater ( since 1937 - Moscow Choreographic School, now - Moscow Academy of Choreography ) (teacher A. M. Messerer ) [3] .
In 1923 - 1931 - ballet dancer, choreographer, in 1932 - 1933 - choreographer of the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater . In 1933 - 1937 - the artistic director of the Kharkov , Dnepropetrovsk , Kiev theaters of opera and ballet [4] .
In 1937, together with N. A. Bolotov, he organized the Folk Dance Ensemble of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1937-1940 - the ensemble choreographer.
From 1940 to 1943 - choreographer of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Kiev Military District , from 1943 to 1955 - song and dance ensemble of the Soviet Army. A. Alexandrova .
Since 1955 - the artistic director of the State Dance Ensemble of the Ukrainian SSR (now the Dance Ensemble of Ukraine named after Pavel Virsky ).
Based on folk traditions, Virsky created vivid choreographic compositions: “Cossacks”, “On a Corn Field”, “Dolls”, “Needlewomen”, “Hopak”, “Crawler”, “We are from Ukraine”, “Sailors”, “Sisters” , “Chumatsky joys”, “Oh, under the cherry”, “Podolianochka”, “What willow is crying for”, “We remember!”, “Buchenwald”, “Hops”, “Flotilla“ Soviet Ukraine “”, “Shevchiki” and other
He toured with the ensemble around the cities of the USSR and abroad: Germany , China and Vietnam (1956), Poland (1955), England (1958), France and Austria (1959), Spain (1969), USA (1972), etc.
He taught at the Kiev Choreographic School .
Member of the CPSU (b) since 1946 .
He died in Kiev on July 5, 1975 . He was buried in the Baykovsky cemetery [5] .

Memory
- Since 1977, the State Folk Dance Ensemble of the Ukrainian SSR has been named after Virsky
- In 1983, a memorial plaque was installed in Kiev on the house number 10 on the street. Postysheva, where in 1969-1975 a choreographer lived (plaque - bronze, bas-relief portrait; sculptor N.D. Marchenko, architect. T. G. Dovzhenko).
- In Odessa, at the house where P.P. Virsky lived (at the address: Novoselsky St., 78), a memorial plaque was also installed (sculptor N. Khudoley)
- By order of the head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration dated July 26, 2000 No. 713 “On Establishing Named Scholarships of the Regional State Administration in the Field of Culture and Art”, a nominal scholarship named after Pavel Pavlovich Virsky in the field of choreographic art was established, which is awarded to outstanding figures of culture and art, gifted creative youth for the purpose of stimulating their creative work and witnessing outstanding personal achievements [9] .
- In 2005, the National Bank of Ukraine, in the series “Outstanding Personalities of Ukraine”, put into circulation a 20,000 handed nickel silver 2-hryvnia commemorative coin dedicated to the 100th birthday of the choreographer.
- In 2005, the Post of Ukraine issued a postage stamp with a face value of 45 kopecks dedicated to the 100th birthday of P. Virsky.
- By the decree of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine No. 184-VIII of February 11, 2015, 110 years from the date of birth of the choreographer will be celebrated at the state level.
